The Polka King

In The Polka King, Jack Black stars as Jan Lewan, a Polish immigrant who became the "King of Pennsylvania Polka." A believer in the American Dream, Jan worked hard and dreamed bigger, but with big dreams come big mistakes. Based on a true story, the film, co-written and directed by Maya Forbes and Wally Wolodarsky, mixes comedy and tragedy showing the world's only known Polka Ponzi scheme. The Polka King co-stars Jenny Slate, Jason Schwartzman, Jacki Weaver, J.B. Smoove and Willie Garson.

Firstly, this movie has some great Talents. Secondly Experienced writers who know what they are doing. But when they themselves decided to take the role of a Direction everything went south ways.

Jack Black, who is a favourite of mine, is always so on point with his comedy that it even makes those who don't like him, laugh out loud. Playing con artists seems to bring out the best in Jack Black. Jenny Slate is so Blunt as Marla and Jason Schwartzman is so Screenly in his performance that he might as well be invisible.

Most of the lines were delivered without much emotion or finesse, which is unexpected from these talented folks. The songs were performed well, but the lip sync were so off, you could tell it was Black's voice but his lips were slightly ahead or behind on the songs.

I wouldn't Avoid this movie, but even if I skip this one its understandable and Please tell Netflix to get better material. With a clipped and modestly entertaining 90-minute run time, The Polka King that relishes in Lewan's theatrics but rarely pauses to interrogate what's behind his facade.

Oh, and John Candy and Eugene Levy did this schtick were hysterical and funny in their prime days. They will always be the Polka Kings. This movie was not a merit to their comedy.
