The Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

Orbiting a planet on the brink of war, scientists test a device to solve an energy crisis, and end up face-to-face with a dark alternate reality. A group of scientific researchers on a space station attempt to harness a new energy source called the "God Particle," only to unleash something terrifying. Julius Onah (The Girl Is in Trouble) directed this sci-fi thriller, which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, David Oyelowo, Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O'Dowd, and Zhang Ziyi.

With a running time that clocks in under two hours, The Cloverfield Paradox uses its duration efficiently, mixing thrills and heart into a cocktail that makes for an effectively surprising film. Its only aim is to make us jump, make us laugh, and send us off with a thrilling final shot that's everything a "Cloverfield" fan could want from a prequel. While it admittedly borrows elements from the well known entries of the space horror genre, the third film in the Cloverfield universe still comes off as fresh thanks to decent special effects and motivated actors. It's also shocking how many answers it actually offers, especially to the original film. The new one is fast, exciting and fun, if you are fine with ignoring some plot holes or techno babble. Decent entertainment either way.

I enjoyed Cloverfield Lane and thought it was an intriguing twist compared to the very first Cloverfield found footage film. This film however is a mixed bag and you can see why the studio pushed this film to the likes of Netflix, it would have flopped at the box office. The film isn't the worst but it has massive problems with the story it wants to tell, it just feels very safe. The last film left us in an interesting place and this adds new information to the mythology, but it never becomes a film that will stand the test of time. Each character feels underdeveloped and I'm surprised J.J let this film slide within the Cloverfield world without a coherent and thrilling storyline. I think this is the weakest chapter in the series and won't please us fans, just a shame they didn't make a scary film or an interesting sci fi film.

I find the movie Interesting and its worth a watch with pretty subtle and smooth horror feel to the whole cloverfield story arc. I rate the movie a 3/5 . #Moviereview #Blogging #Vigalcollective.
